VISIT ANGHIARI

Anghiari, located between Sansepolcro and Monterchi, is a charming ancient village built on a promontory overlooking the Valtiberina. It is part of the 'club' of the most beautiful villages in Italy, a title conferred on those that have best preserved their historical heritage. Once owned by the Camaldolese and then by the Tarlati, it was the scene in 1440 of the Florentines' victory over the Milanese, a decisive victory to counter Visconti's ambitions for Tuscany and the rest of Italy. Leonardo da Vinci chose it as the subject for a fresco in Palazzo Vecchio, in Florence, unfortunately lost shortly after its creation.

Anghiari is considered one of the 'Most Beautiful Villages in Italy' by the Italian Touring Club.

Just over 1 km to the southwest is the beautiful Romanesque parish church Pieve di Sovara, while on the road to Sansepolcro you can still see the Byzantine origins of the 8th century of Santo Stefano.
